Messin' Around

I got a lot of new gear over the winter and I figured I'd throw a couple things up here to showcase it a little bit. I've been busy so I haven't made any posts in a while but hopefully that can change... enjoy.

Here's the details on the new setup:

Guitar > Digitech Whammy II > GCB-95 Wah > TS9 (drive @ 10:00, level @ 3:00) > TS9DX{silver mod} (drive @ MAX, level @ 2:00) > CMATMODS 3-knob Ross Clone > Fender 15W amp

  2. hey mike, I just signed up for the blog today. I was the one who suggested Cavern via Youtube. Have you ever chatted with the alleged artist guy? He does a video on SOAM ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYWSTuxmOs4 ). I'm nowhere up to where you guys are, but I was wondering if you or anyone on here could refer me to a website to help with learning scales. I have a little knowledge but could really use some direction. Everything I've learned has been self-taught, so you could imaging how I play. I don't have much music background but want to increase my playing and understanding of music.

    Thanks for anything!

  3. Hey throwbuddy, I can do a Cavern thing. Really easy and fun song.

I have spoken to the alleged artist guy (Tony is his name) through email one time, but let me make one thing clear: He is a WAY more advanced musician/guitar player than I am. Tony is a well versed musician who has spend years and years of his life dedicating himself to mastering the guitar (and probably other instruments based on his talent level). I'm just a guy who can play Phish songs and sound a lot like Trey. Putting us anywhere near the same category is a gross injustice to him. That guy can rock the shit out of anything he wants to; I can just play Phish really well.

Most of what I know is also self-taught, I've just been at it for longer than you. Like I said, I'll gladly do a Cavern cover and short explanation, but I'm not going to teach you how to play scales. There are literally thousands of sites on the internet that can do that.

Check back for a Cavern soon though and thanks for checkin' out the blog.

  5. yeah, i understand about you not teaching me about scales and know its a big thing and will take time. i dont want you to try to teach me anything like that. i love knowing theres someone who focuses on my favorite band. i just didnt know if there was a specific approach you took when learning scales that made it any easier. it makes me feel better hearing u say youre not a musician yet you know scales and modes and play through them fluidly. for so long i was under the assumption that you had to know a lot about music theory to learn scales and modes. keep jammin to phish and I'll be watching your blog and youtube channel for videos and such.
